The rocks below the cliff

I left the house on a very deep foggy morning to paint on the cliff near the Terranea Resort. It was 8 AM when I arrived there. I had quite a walk to get to the point looking out at the Pacific Ocean. I was expecting 72 people to come by on a walk with a guide from the Land Conservatory. The Land Conservatory likes to have a few artists painting when they do tours on the trails along the coastline.
I looked around and I was very attracted to the rocks below the cliff. Even though it was quite overcast I loved the swirling green water and swelling ocean crashing upon the rocks. This was going to be my painting for this morning. A wonderful thing happened as I was painting away. A flock of about 12 pelicans flew by skimming just above the water. It was a wondrous sight to see. I knew I was now going to put birds into my painting near the water. I did not really [plan to paint pelicans, as my focus was on the rocks and ocean below the cliff but I did place some birds close to the water in my painting as you can see below. What a joy it is to capture such a lovely scene.
